Yorkshire & the Humber

Places in Yorkshire and the Humber where a licence is needed to busk, or performers are required to adhere to a council code of conduct:

Doncaster – Busker’s permits can be obtained from Val Constantine on 01302 862478.  You will need to carry your permit when you are busking as DMBC staff patrolling the area may ask to see it. If granted a permit, performers who plan to encourage participation and use members of the public in performances must have Public Liability Insurance.  Such insurance to be produced on request to the Town Centre Management.  Further information is available from www.doncaster.gov.uk.

Kirklees – A licence is required. Application forms can be downloaded from www.kirklees.gov.uk.
Sheffield – A licence is not required but performers have to comply with the council’s code of practice, and are also required to use an official ‘busking mat’ which can be loaned from the council. Further information is available from www.sheffield.gov.uk.

York – A ‘yellow badge’ issued by the council is required to busk in York city centre. To obtain one read the busking guidelines on www.york.gov.uk, then telephone the council on 01904 552 273 or e-mail at city.centre@york.gov.uk.

Do you busk in this are regularly? Tried to perform somewhere and been turned away? If you’ve got any info about busking in this area that would be useful to other buskers, please leave a comment below.

BUSKING IN LEEDS- I’ve just spoken to Leeds Council and you don’t need a permit to busk in Leeds. They ask if you use amplification to keep it to a minimum and don’t block busy pathways and doorways.
